Technical Sergeant Jason L. Norton, 32, of Miami, Okla., was assigned to the 3rd Security Forces Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On January 22, 2006, TSgt Norton and another airman were killed while conducting convoy escort duties near Taji, Iraq when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.

A 1991 graduate of Miami High School, where he wrestled and played football, TSgt Norton enlisted in the Air Force in March 1992. He became a canine trainer and loved working with dogs. He was stationed in multiple locations throughout his time in the military including Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Guam, and Alaska.

TSgt Norton was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and had been awarded at least six other medals, including four Air Force achievement medals.

"He loved the squad he commanded, and his troops would follow him anywhere," said MSgt Timothy John.
TSgt Norton’s wife and both children are Folds of Honor Scholarship recipients.
